Math for the week of January 19th
This week, students will be challenged to use smaller boxes to figure out how large bigger boxes will be. For example, they will need to draw an accurate outline of a 10 X 10 box, but will only be given an 8 X 2 box, a 2 X 6 box, a 6 X 6 box and a 2 X 10 box. They will have to use the smaller boxes to make the larger 10 X 10 box. In doing so, they will see that a 2 X 6 and a 6 X 6 forms an 8 X 6 box. This demonstrates the distributive property.
For homework, the students will work on division problems. They need only to reverse the multiplication facts they have memorized.
